" districts adjoining French Indo-China a fair supply of lipsticks was secured before communications had been interrupted by the Japanese occupation of that country. In some towns lipsticks became a favourite medium of exchange. Almost anything could be bought against payment in scores of lipsticks which changed hands many times without being used."
